Basta is one of the first literary villains that legitimately terrified me as a child, and I still find him scary today. Doria, Farid, the martens, Elinor, Darius… the list goes on and on. Dustfinger is my favorite, of course, but as a writer facing writer’s block, I gained even more appreciation for Fenoglio, who is spot on as a writer. And the characters in the series are all so amazing. Inkdeath brings it all to a nailbiting but inevitable conclusion. Usually I have a favorite or a least favorite novel in a series, but all three are remarkable for different reasons. It is also amazing how the first book is so different than the second two (Inkspell and Inkdeath are more traditional high fantasy) but all three of them are exceptionally high quality.
